Pinewood Derby is a home computer recreation of the Cub Scout model car races. The game follows the rules and regulations of the real-life competition. Players create a custom car, in 3D, and race it against the cars of as many as 25 computer-controlled opponents. Virtual cars can be customized by sanding, painting, and adding stickers, weight, and lubrication. As in the actual competitions, the mechanics of the race are simple. The cars start atop a long, sloped ramp, and are propelled completely by gravity to the finish line, with nothing but friction to slow them down. In the virtual version, players can experiment with the game's physics settings to race under unusual gravity and friction conditions. In-game photos and movie galleries save shots of the player's favorite races. U&I Entertainment's home computer adaptation of Pinewood Derby is licensed by the Boy Scouts of America.
